This 7-day academic and cultural exchange program offers Glasgow Academy students an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant city of Hong Kong. School Exchange & Collaboration: The heart of the trip involves a half-day school exchange for 3 days where students will engage directly with their Hong Kong counterparts (DSS schools in Hong Kong). They will participate in classroom activities, observe Hong Kong’s unique educational approach, and explore the city’s academic environment. The exchange also includes a guided school tour, offering insight into cutting-edge facilities like science labs and digital technology spaces. In addition to these activities, Glasgow students will have the chance to participate in a joint learning project that focuses on global issues, encouraging cross-cultural collaboration and enhancing their global perspectives.
Before departure, an online pre-departure briefing will be held, ensuring that both students and teachers are well-prepared for the journey ahead. The session will provide crucial information about the trip, cultural expectations, and the academic exchange component, helping students feel confident and informed.
Cultural and Educational Highlights: The trip includes a series of interactive workshops and cultural excursions designed to deepen the students’ understanding of Hong Kong’s traditions. From learning Chinese calligraphy and participating in a traditional tea ceremony, to exploring historic sites like Tai O Fishing Village and enjoying scenic views from The Peak, the students will gain a comprehensive view of the city’s unique blend of heritage and modernity.
Closing Events: On Day 4, the students will reflect on their experiences in a farewell ceremony with their Hong Kong peers, followed by a farewell lunch that will offer a last chance for students to connect with new friends. A unique highlight will be a performance by the Scottish Pipe Band, providing a cultural exchange through music and celebrating the connection between Hong Kong and Scotland.
In addition to academic exchange and cultural workshops, students will have the opportunity to explore Hong Kong’s iconic attractions, including the Star Ferry, Victoria Harbour, and the Avenue of Stars. They will also participate in team-building exercises, leadership workshops, and meet with young professionals to explore potential career paths, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

1) YMCA Tsim Sha Tsui (TST): Upon arrival at the YMCA in Tsim Sha Tsui, the students will check in, receive their room assignments, and have a brief orientation on hotel facilities and local safety tips.

Students will stop at landmarks like the Former Legislative Council Building and the Central Government Complex for a closer look at Hong Kong’s political and cultural heritage.
2. Visit to The Peak

Students will have the opportunity to explore over 100 stalls selling a variety of items, such as clothes, accessories, handbags, jewelry, and traditional Chinese trinkets. This market offers a chance to experience the vibrant atmosphere of a traditional Hong Kong street market. It’s a great place to find unique cultural souvenirs like Chinese fans, tea sets, and other locally-made goods.
2) Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui
After the traditional market, the group will head to Harbour City, one of Hong Kong's largest and most modern shopping malls. Located in the Tsim Sha Tsui area, this mall offers a wide range of international brands and Hong Kong-themed specialty stores. 3. Check out and transfer to Hong Kong International Airport
After a fulfilling day of shopping and cultural exploration, the group will return to their hotel, check out, and transfer to Hong Kong International Airport. The coach ride will give students a final view of the city's skyline as they make their way to the airport.
4. Depart Hong Kong for Glasgow
The group will depart Hong Kong late in the evening, around 11 PM, for their flight back to Glasgow. The return journey will be the end of their educational and cultural adventure in Hong Kong, having experienced a blend of history, modernity, and local culture during their trip.
